The Stirling Tenants Assembly held their AGM at the mayfield Centre on Saturday 25th May 2019.
The AGM was well attended and included visitors Tony Kelly (TPAS), Lorna Cameron (Cheif Housing Officer) and Council Thomson.
Lorna started off the AGm with apresentation on Stirling Council's 5 main housing priorities; these being preventing homelessness, to deliver more affordable housing, to supply warm and energy efficient homes, to support people to live independantly in their own home for longer and to provide a 'customer focused' service to all tenants. A good discussion took place following the presentation discussing the meaning of 'affordable homes'. Another STA member asked the question on how to get more young people invovled in their own communities.
Tony kelly from TPAS then had a presentation on 'Tenant participation throughout Scotland'. It was agreed that some of the ideas, including summer fun days, nostalgia cafes, and holding open days were all great ideas.
Councillor Thomson then talked about 'History of Housing in Stirling'. This was very informative and brought back some memories for some tenants who had resided in Stirling all their lives.
The Chairperson of the STA, William Derrick, then talked about the STA Annual report and what the STA had acheived over the last year.
This included winning the TPAS Good Practice Award in 2018 for Best Practice in Involving Customers in Service. he also talked about the various groups that the STA are involved in, these being the Repairs Group, The Tenant Led Inspection Group attending the HAg meetings as well as holding STA monthly meetings.
The STA also made a YouTube video with the help of Forth Valley College.
They hope to continue all the good work they are doing with the help of their new TP Worker Leza Lafferty who started in April 2019.
